From the time we booked our flight to Sydney I had been going back and forth about what other cities to visit. Originally we were doing Sydney, Cairns and Kangaroo Island but then we scratched Kangaroo Island because the flight times were inconvenient. Originally I had already been struggling to decide between Kangaroo Island and Melbourne and I'm all about no regrets so a few days before we headed to Australia I decided to add Melbourne to our itinerary.
I went for 2 nights/1 day and did the Sunset Great Ocean Road tour through Viator. Before you actually get to the main attractions, 12 Apostles, Gibson Steps, and Loch Ard Gord you have a coastal drive which is breathtaking in itself. You stop in the Eucalyptus Forest where you can see wild Koalas up in the trees and we even spotted wild Kangaroos. You stop for food right before getting to the 12 Apostle which you can eat in the van or wait until you get there to eat while you watch the sunset. I needed my hands to take pictures so I opted to eat in the van! The views are unbelievable and we got between 25-45mins at each location to take it all in. It was a long day of driving but more than worth it!

In hindsight I could have only done 2 days in Sydney and 2 days in Melbourne so I would have had more time to explore Melbourne itself. One of my friends came to Melbourne with us but opted to just explore the city instead of doing the tour and she said she loved it and was so happy she too ditched a day in Sydney. Either way I am so happy I followed my gut and changed my itinerary.
Getting From Melbourne Airport to the City
There is an express bus that gets to the city in 20mins, the SkyBus, which cost me $28.96/RT. It picks up in front of Terminals 1, 3, & 4. Even if you are coming into Terminal 2 the walk between terminals is extremely short as it's a small airport. If you are staying in a hotel in the city, they even have complimentary shuttles that will take you from the bus station to and from your hotel.
